We had just been cast the day before- finding out our roles and what we are in all three cast; me being given the role of peter pan in cast 1 faith and a lost boy in both cast 2 and 3. So because of this we decided to delve straight into the songs first instead of script work, as we had all just been cast and obviously would not know the bulk of our lines. All the songs within peter pan are fairly difficult, especially due to the fact that its a musical so there all very high, requiring everyone performing the lead roles to have at least a little bit of control in their chest, mixed and head voice- which isn't an easy thing to develop or have lots off; even for people who have a natural ability to sing. This is why I feel spending a session on some of the songs was a really good idea, and really helpful to everyone as a cast. There's also a lot of harmony's that are quite difficult, and because I'm playing the role of peter there's a lot of harmony I have to do with the actress playing Wendy, so going over them is something I was really happy about. I personally don't yet feel one hundred percent with the singing, so as a task I know for sure the harmony's are something that I need to go over and practise more.
Wednesday 14th November
Wednesday was more tailored to working on and constructing some of the fixed pieces of choreography throughout the performance. One of witch being Wendy's song- were the lost boys (including peter) are tasked with trying to build Wendy a house. The whole point of this scene is to show how lovable, yet childish the lost boys are- still representing the large amount of respect they have for peter; being the first real insight the audience have of the dynamic between peter and the lost boys. I will be playing both Peter and a lost boy for this scene, just in different casts- meaning I will need to know both parts, so even though on Wednesday I was only running through it as Peter, I still made sure to keep note of what the lost boys were doing throughout it. Because Peter obviously doesn't know how to build a house, I wanted to make him seem clueless- yet knowing in a way due to the fact that Peter is a very cocky character, therefore bossing other lost boys arounds whilst still asking them (including Wendy herself) on what the instructions say. This is why I loosened up my posture to create an overall more clumsier look.
