We started off the day by having a project proposal meeting- just going over our plans for sound, lighting, stage management and costume etc. This meeting is extremely important as it gives us as a collective an idea of the remaining things that need to be acquired for the show- whilst also giving the separate teams taking control of these jobs the chance to communicate their plan/ideas and how they want to approach them. Filling this meeting we then did a few costume fittings, just seeing what works and what doesn't.
Rehearsals
We started rehearsals by going over act 2, mainly focusing on the first scene of act two and altering a few things- adding in another song that acts as a opening/transition for the start of this act. I love this idea of starting the act with a song because it straight away links the emotion from act one immediately into act 2. It also adds to the first scene more, which I feel originally was missing the impact that it needed, so by adding in this song that effect is created.
We also added in the same song from the start of this act- having just Kathryn sing it on her own after act 2 scene 3. This is to add emotional effect and symbolise her death, making it clear to the audience that she's passed, but also to show a sense of relief from Kathryn. No longer in pain from her illness.
Tuesday 21st may 2024
Tuesday started with a run through of act 2's show- going from the top and timing it, so we know how much we'll need to cut off to make it the appropriate length. This run through was quite sloppy as some lines are yet to be learned- with the transitions still messy. We got notes back on this run through, the main ones being volume, pacing, spacing and line learning. It's important that as a company we work on these things and clean them up before we break up for the half term. After this there was a cast 1 run through. I made some notes on the transitions and took note of the acting choice used that I thought would also be good for my character.
