Monday 21st October
Monday marked the start of our week at the globe, starting the day by going on a tour of the space, and just giving ourselves the chance to fully see the area we were going to work in and what we needed to be careful of or what we could us to our advantage. It was really nice to see the whole space again after last year and re remember sections I'd forgotten about and familiarise myself with them again and the best way of performing in those areas. The first initial tour was also spent briefly going over and blocking in some sections that are placed in more difficult spaces- just so that the actors performing in that space could feel more comfortable and prepared.

I then went up to get my Nurse Ratchet make up tested for my main cast shows on Tuesday- just to make sure the make up artists felt confident and were happy with the final look. It also gave them the opportunity to test out anything they weren't sure about. It's important for us as actors to learn as much as we can from the experiences we have in collage when getting our make up done/tested, and what is the best way as actors that we can accommodate the make up artists and the other people that we'll work with in the industry. I really loved the makeup and found that I found a deeper sense of character when having it on and walking around in character. I can't wait to have it on in costume and to fully look like the character.

We then moved onto practising the individual sections within the tour starting from the beginning and working through the scenes. We didn't get the chance to go over every section in loads of detail on Monday, but luckily we got to run through the One flew over scenes, so I got the chance to try out some different choices and openly discuss what would be more effective in the space, whilst preempting what some of the audience interactions might be- which was helpful because It allowed me to figure out before hand how I might work around that and what might happen. This was especially helpful when it came to how I was going to take an audience member out of the audience as I ended up discussing on having someone else there to help tie the bandage around the audience members head so I didn't get stuck, struggling to tie it whilst focusing on getting back to the rest of the audience.
Tuesday 22nd October Today was my main ghost light tour show as Nurse Ratchet, beginning the day with some warm ups as usual- being ran by some of my fellow students as part of their assignment. It was then time to move onto tech runs but, because I got a chance to run through my scene on Monday I spent time going over my lines with the other Nurse Ratchet, just making sure that I was 100% comfortable and confident with what I was saying and all of my ques.
Evaluation I then got the chance to walk round some of the other scenes that didn't get a chance to practise the day before, finding it really nice to see everyone's hard work displayed together- whilst getting a better insight on the tour placement and were and what order the scenes slot in. I then went straight up to the makeup artists and got my hair and makeup done- along with putting on my costume and just getting all the small character details ready as well. I then did some quick final run throughs in the space before the audience arrived.
My mindset approaching this ghost light tour has been a lot different to last year, as I found myself last year focusing on what was the hardest role to play- what was the hardest thing to do. Whereas this year my mindset has shifted to what have I not done before and what can I learn from doing some thing that I haven't. Although my role was not as technically difficult as last years role of a tour guide, I found myself learning a lot more than I would've learned if I just played a tour guide again. The experience of guiding the piece and being in it are two very different experiences, and the way that you break the 4th wall and interact with the audience is completely different too. As a tour guide you had an objective to be friend the audience and make sure gaps were filled efficiently- but when playing Nurse Ratchet within the tour my objective was souly based around having a quick, strong overall effect on them of fear. Which completely changed the way I interacted with them and the way that I had to command their attention to leave my mark in small time frame. I Felt a different kind of anxiety being placed within the tour, personally I felt that as a tour guide I had space to hide behind improv and the scenes that we would visit- whilst on the other hand playing Nurse Ratchet everything was fixed and planned, when I would perform and interacted, they would watch and listen instead of trying to create a fluent conversation like atmosphere. After re visiting the ghost light tours I am defiantly more equipped within immersive theatre, and find that now I'm also better at understanding my objective when performing- after having to focus on multiple different aspects of the same performance.
