Week 45

 Tuesday 14th January 2025

Today was all about focusing on our year two showcase, and finalising what we're doing and the roles of everyone in our group. This project is all put together by us which means that we all have to listen to each other and push rehearsals and the project progression forward ourselves. This is quite a large task and needs full commitment to work, especially as Tuesday is our main day to do it, putting us on a tight schedule. I'm using this showcase as an opportunity to really push past what I think I'm capable of and focus on elements that I need to improve on. The main one being anger within naturalism and the diversity within that- delving into the way anger deviates depending on what someone's angry about or who they're angry with. For me naturalism is the thing that really pushes me, but the thing I love the most- finding the results to be so impactful if executed well.

For my main section within the show case I want to perform three separate but combined sections of Duncan Macmillan's "People Places and Things"- a play that follows the recovery and relapse of Sarah, an actress who is trying to fight a drug addiction whilst dealing with the death of her brother and family issues. This is a piece that really mimics reality and forces me as an actor to improve to execute it. I've started off by casting some of the supporting roles in the scenes and figuring out the approximated timing of the piece as a whole which I think should potentially add up to 25 mins.

Video from dance session

Thursday 16th January 2025

We started todays session with one of our tutors Tom, focusing on our drama school monologues. I've already gone through quite a few of my monologues with Tom- but I knew that for a third round recall that I'm going to be re directed by some of the audition panel, so actively asked my tutor to re direct me quite heavily, so I can get a better sense of how to take on the redirection and in a way practise for the recall.

We then moved onto an acting for screen session, and more specifically the challenge of a table scene and how to approach them. This session taught us about the difficulties and the precision of a single lens table scene- and what is done to make a very crisp and well executed one. I wasn't aware of just how many people and separate teams on a set it takes to shoot even just a couple of minutes of footage, learning about a continuity prop team and how tiresome their job is having to make sure everything is consistent constantly. We then moved onto taking on a table scene ourselves- just breaking it
