Worlds worst audition activity

Today we did an audition style activity, but instead of trying to actually deliver a good audition- the point of the activity was to do the opposite of this and deliver a bad one. We were put into threes and then given a duologue each to go through- two people would read it out; person A having to deliver it in an extremely monotone and bleak way, almost as if there were no emotions behind the words- whereas person B had to read it extremely over the top way, making it extremely theatrical and sucking out any element of realism from the duologue. The third person in the group then had to watch the delivery of the duologue and give notes, swapping in  with the person they thought did the best job at doing the worst audition. I really enjoyed this activity and actually found that it took away some of the stress that is built up around auditions as it demonstrated two opposite ends of the extreme that were actually difficult to force yourself to do, which highlights to us as actors that our auditions could never go that bad- pulling out the humour in both extremes. I personally feel as if a more theatrical style of acting is something I don't find to be as challenging, so decided to read in for person A- surprisingly finding it oddly difficult to just read it out instead of act it, although I did feel it help me understand the skill of reeling things in sometimes especially when it comes realism as less is always more. I also felt it was a fun activity to get me in the right headspace to act and let myself go when performing throughout the day.

Helping out with "Hunt" rehearsals:

Tuesday 26th March 2024

Today we re visited the rest of the classes practitioner presentation assignments. I was not presenting mine today, which meant I watched and participated in the practical activities- supporting my fellow class mates as they educated us about their practitioner. Their was at least four groups that presented today, but one stood out to me the most as I felt genuinely educated and also interested in the practitioner further- The pair presenting were Noah and Kieran with the practitioner being Mike Alfred's. One of the main things I liked about their presentation was the practical activity, this is because I felt it actually helped with what it was described to help with- this being improvisation and subtext analogy. From personal opinion I also feel as if this activity would make an amazing warm up, as it made me feel ready but also prepared to push myself- I personally don't like doing warm ups that make me feel anxious as it doesn't prepare me for harder things it just make me more fearful to do them, but this did the opposite whilst also being a good practical acting warm up. I will definitely be recommending it for future warm ups.

Thursday 28th March 2024

Thursday was spent working on two separate pieces of script called shakers and bouncers- theses two scripts explore the life of the male bouncers working outside a club and the female shakers working inside the club. Throughout the two separate scripts the group of women/men cosplay as the other gender stereotype, giving the audience an insight into the lives they live. I personally found this activity quite stressful as we didn't really have very long to do it, meaning not all lines were learnt and positioning became blocky, this also meant that when performing it mistakes were made which was frustrating as we did an okay run of the whole piece when practising it. I feel if we had prepared more before the day things would have gone more smoothly, but at least we all know for next time especially when it comes to preparation and the importance of it.
